IASS & FAO Workshop: Quo vadis VGGT?

14 December 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 15 December 2015 @ 1:00 pm

Learning from the implementation experiences of the right to food approach

The workshop focuses on the crucial nexus between human rights and land governance in the context of the human rights-based Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT), which are currently in their implementation stage. The idea is to learn from other processes of implementing human rights-based instruments, starting with the right to food approach, in order to identify future strategies to support the implementation of the VGGT. What kinds of strategies have worked to achieve which outcomes? Which have not worked? What are current actions to apply the VGGT and how can they benefit from these lessons learned?

We would like to discuss with you these questions and first findings of our analysis on how the right to food instruments have been implemented (in a broad sense). Participants will be stakeholders from civil society, academia and international organizations. We encourage you to identify own experiences and lessons learned to be shared in short, informal inputs. This way we can exchange experiences and together reflect on suggested strategies to support the human rights-based implementation of the VGGT.

Please download the concept note for the workshop.

The workshop will be jointly hosted by the IASS and FAO.
